Aurora man accused of selling guns to felons, held on $50,000 bail

An Aurora man is in custody, charged with unlawful purchase of a firearm with intent to deliver and disorderly conduct for filing a false police report.

Latrell English, 22, of the 1300 block of Normantown Road, is being held on $50,000 bail.

Prosecutors say English called Aurora police on Feb. 3 to report that firearms had been stolen out of the trunk of his car and that he knew the identity of the thief. An investigation revealed that one of the guns in question was seized by authorities and has been in evidence lockup for the past several months.

Further investigation into the matter revealed that on Sept. 8, 2017, English purchased the guns for another individual and that he would make a profit on the sale. Police said the individual to whom English sold the weapons is a known street gang member and felon and prohibited from legally possessing a firearm.

"The actions alleged against Mr. English are extremely serious," DuPage County State's Attorney Robert Berlin said. "There is no doubt that illegal gun sales as alleged in this case are fueling crime throughout the entire region. What I find particularly troubling about the allegations in this case is that at least one of the guns was allegedly purchased with the intent of providing that weapon to a known felon who is prohibited from possessing any firearms."

English's next court appearance is scheduled for March 19 in front of Judge Liam Brennan.
