State Sen. McConchie recovering after skiing crash

Republican state Sen. Dan McConchie of Hawthorn Woods says he's recovering well after being hospitalized over the weekend following a skiing crash in Wisconsin.

"I fell skiing with my kids," he explained Monday, describing his injuries as largely aches and bruises.

Though his doctors advised him to take it easy for a few days, McConchie said he's still involved with work and speaking with other leaders - including the governor's office - by phone.

"I expect to be back to my office on Monday (March 5)," he said.

In a letter to local GOP leaders, Lake County Republican Central Committee Chairman Mark Shaw asked them to keep McConchie in their prayers for a full recovery.

"I really appreciate the support," McConchie said.

He earlier posted about the crash on his Facebook page, along with a video of him skiing.

"Took a spill just after this was shot, which caused me to head to the local ER," he wrote. "But that's not going to keep me down! Will be back at it shortly. Never give up ... never give in ... keep pushing ahead!"

McConchie has used a wheelchair for mobility since he suffered a spinal cord injury in a hit-and-run accident in 2007 while riding a motorcycle in Mundelein. But he has continued to be involved in sports such as adaptive skiing.
