Girls go for the win at Pinewood Derby races

There was plenty of racing - and good sportsmanship - Sunday at Girl Scout Troop 1569's Powder Puff Pinewood Derby at the Sugar Grove Township Community Building.

The cars were built from kits. Each car could weigh no more than 5 ounces and be no longer than 7 inches nor exceed 2.75 inches in width.

Each car raced six times and on each lane of the track. At the end of racing, the fastest six cars moved on to the Final Grand Championship to race six more times.

This year there were 85 racers including scouts and their siblings.

Last year, the Girl Scouts borrowed a track from a local Cub Scout pack. After tremendous turnout, the troop received their own track with an electronic start gate and finish line, which was donated by Comfort Tech Heating and Air.
