'Hamilton' star Leslie Odom Jr. coming to Naperville

Tony Award-winning actor and Grammy Award-winning singer Leslie Odom Jr. of Broadway's "Hamilton" fame is an author, too, and he's coming to Naperville.

Odom, who played Aaron Burr in the hit musical about the nation's Founding Fathers, is scheduled to sing, speak and share signed copies of his book during an event at 7 p.m. Saturday, March 31, at Wentz Hall on the North Central College campus.

Anderson's Bookshop is bringing Odom to town to promote his book "Failing Up: How to Take Risks, Aim Higher and Never Stop Learning."

The book is Odom's effort to share lessons he's learned about how to prepare each day for success, find others to be sources of support and take risks that lead to bigger and better opportunities.

His appearance in Naperville will include what Anderson's described as a "short, incredible musical performance with a live band" followed by a question-and-answer session. Those who buy tickets for $26.86 at LOJAndersons.brownpapertickets.com will receive a pre-signed copy of "Failing Up."

Odom came to national fame in 2015 when he was the first to play Aaron Burr in the musical "Hamilton" at The Public Theater in New York City. He won a Tony Award for Best Leading Actor in a Musical for that role and also won a Grammy Award for Best Musical Theater Album as a principal soloist on the original Broadway cast recording of "Hamilton."

He also performed "America the Beautiful" before the Super Bowl last month in Minneapolis and has sung for the Obamas at the White House.

Odom has released a self-titled music album and appeared in TV shows including "CSI: Miami," "Grey's Anatomy," "Gotham," "House of Lies," "Law & Order: SVU," "Person of Interest," "Smash" and "Vanished." He also starred in the feature film "Murder on the Orient Express."
