Autopsy: Man drowned in Arlington Heights pond

An autopsy has determined the official cause of death of a man found in a pond in Arlington Heights to be drowning, authorities said Friday.

While police still weren't releasing his identity pending notification of family, Police Sgt. Andy Blevins said police knew him as a local homeless man. He was found facedown in the pond on the 600 block of East Golf Road shortly before noon Wednesday by an employee of a nearby business.

Based on what investigators have learned, he may have been there for a month or longer, Blevins said. There were no signs of trauma. A toxicology report is pending.
