Arlington Heights man wanted in Lake County arrested

An Arlington Heights man wanted on a warrant out of Lake County has been taken into custody, officials said.

Ryan P. Vela, 33, of the 1700 block of East Shannon Lane, was charged with criminal sexual assault after an investigation by the Vernon Hills Police Department, and a warrant was issued Feb. 13, according to a news release from the Lake County sheriff's office.

Officers from the United States Marshals Service Great Lakes Regional Fugitive Task Force began searching for Vela on Feb. 20 by conducting surveillance at several locations, the release said.

While conducting surveillance at the Shannon Lane address, officers saw Vela get out of a vehicle and enter the home, officials said. After officers tried numerous times to get Vela to come out of the home, officers forced their way inside and were able to take him into custody, according to the release.

Vela was taken to the Lake County jail and is being held on $100,000 bond. He is scheduled to be in court at 10:30 a.m. March 22.
