Elgin police chief a finalist for job in Colorado

Elgin Police Chief Jeffrey Swoboda was named one of five finalists for the job as top cop in Fort Collins, Colorado, according to a news release issued by the city of Fort Collins on Friday.

Swoboda confirmed that he was a finalist for the Colorado job Saturday. He said the Fort Collins recruiter reached out to him months ago and that he is intrigued by the opportunity there.

"It is still early in the process there," Swoboda said. "I'm looking forward to learning more about it. I'm looking to see if my skills line up with what they need."

Swoboda said he is extremely happy in Elgin, where he has been chief since 2010.

"I love where we're headed here in Elgin," Swoboda said.

All five finalists will travel to Fort Collins later this month for another round of interviews and a meet and greet with residents.

"I'm very excited that their community is so involved with the process," Swoboda said.

Swoboda said he will be heading there this week to do some fact-finding of his own in advance of the meet-and-greet.
