Lakewood addition approved

The largest forest preserve in Lake County will grow by 8.2 acres with the authorization Tuesday by the Lake County Forest Preserve District board. The board approved the purchase of what is known as the Grawe property for $287,000, or $35,000 per acre, to be funded through 2008 referendum bonds. The land is on Wauconda Road, just west of and overlooking the Millennium Trail about 700 feet south of Bonner Road near Wauconda. The property is bordered on three sides by the 2,827-acre Lakewood Forest Preserve and is considered an important acquisition.
