Police say Aurora man beat, kidnapped his former girlfriend
A 21-year-old Aurora man was free on bond when he was arrested on charges he kidnapped and beat his former girlfriend last week, according to West Dundee police and court records.
Javier G. Nunez-Garcia, of the 1100 block of Ridgeway Avenue, is now being held on $250,000 bail at the Kane County jail.
Nunez-Garcia is charged with aggravated kidnapping, aggravated domestic battery, unlawful restraint - all felonies - and violating an order of protection and driving while his license was suspended, both misdemeanors.
According to court records, Nunez-Garcia and the victim dated up to four years. He is accused of choking, biting, scratching, spitting on her and pulling the victim's hair Feb. 1. Nunez-Garcia also is accused of slamming the woman's head into the car door and taking away her phone.
Nunez-Garcia is accused of abducting the woman from a parking lot and taking her to a residence in West Dundee. She was held captive until she was able to escape, and police arrested him Tuesday, according to police and court records.
"This is an extreme case of domestic violence," West Dundee Police Chief Andy Wieteska said, adding the victim was able to escape within a day after her abduction and is expected to be OK.
The victim's mother was granted an emergency order of protection Sept. 13, 2017, that covered her, the victim and her family. Judge John Dalton extended the order through mid-October 2017 and then through Oct. 24, 2019, records show.
According to court records, Nunez-Garcia was found in September 2017 sleeping in the victim's mother's basement without permission after being told to stay away because of his gang ties. He also is accused of punching a man in the face and breaking his nose during a dispute with his former girlfriend in June 2017.
Nunez-Garcia was free on bond for several pending drug cases at the time of the most recent charges, records show.
He was arrested and charged in April 2017 and in July 2017 with possession of a controlled substance. He was charged in November 2017 with selling drugs near a park or school in McHenry County, records show.
If convicted in the kidnapping case, he faces six to 30 years in prison with no possibility of probation.
