Lake Zurich wins award for safe, sustainable snow fighting

The village of Lake Zurich won the "2017 Safe and Sustainable Snowfighting" award from the Salt Institute for its environmental consciousness and effective management in winter road salt storage. The criteria related to the safe use and storage of salt.

"Our public works team strives to stay current with today's technologies to ensure safe travels for all motorists while using the most environmentally friendly standards and practices," Public Works Director Mike Brown said in a news release.

Only 85 local agencies in the U.S. and Canada won the award in 2017. Other winners in the state include Addison, Buffalo Grove, Geneva, Lake in the Hills, Spring Grove and McHenry County.
