Rockland School's 17th Career Day features spectrum of professions

Dance instructor Marchello Lee of Lincolnshire had the new gymnasium rocking Friday at Rockland School's 17th Career Day in Libertyville.

Lee was among 23 representatives from various professions who gave 30-minute presentations to first- through fifth-grade students.

The jobs also included orthopedic surgeon, comic book illustrator, pilot, helicopter nurse, mechanical engineer, structural engineer, acupuncturist, chemist, accountant, nurse, accountant and strength coach.

"A study shows that by fifth grade if a student is not exposed to a career, they will not choose that career in their lifetime," teacher Dale List said.

List said that every year, the kids are more and more enthusiastic about Career Day.

"I love the way the presenters are so engaging with the students and have done a beautiful job sharing their careers with them," List said.

The fair is sponsored by the Rockland Family Association.
