Apartment fire displaces Naperville family

One family was displaced after a fire that started in kitchen of their apartment in Naperville, fire officials said.

Emergency crews arrived on the scene to find heavy black smoke coming from the first floor of a three story apartment building on the 1500 block of Fairway Drive in Naperville. Firefighters quickly put out the blaze, and crews searched for any victims who might have been trapped inside, officials said.

No injuries were reported, but a family of two adults and one child was displaced and a dog died from smoke inhalation and injuries. The American Red Cross assisted the family, according to officials.
