Harper College fires professor charged in Iowa shootings
Harper College on Tuesday fired a professor charged with shooting at vehicles Jan. 11 in Iowa. Charles Johnston, an associate professor of psychology at the Palatine-based community college, was dismissed at a special meeting of the college's board of trustees. Board members spent nearly 30 minutes in closed session before reconvening in open session and taking a unanimous vote to fire him. Full story.
No one injured in car vs. Metra train crash in Glen Ellyn
No one was injured in a crash between a stopped car and an inbound commuter train near the Glen Ellyn Metra station Tuesday night. According to a Glen Ellyn police news release, the car was driven onto the tracks by a 75-year-old woman from Willow Springs. The driver was heading south on Main Street over the tracks, but before she had completely crossed, she made a right turn and ended up on them. Full story.
Rolling Meadows council favors rowhouses on former Dominick's site

Palatine police investigating possible gang shooting
Palatine police are investigating what might have been a gang-related shooting about 3:30 p.m. Tuesday on the 1300 block of North Rohlwing Road. A 9-1-1 caller described hearing several "pops" near where some people were fighting. Police found evidence to confirm that gunshots were fired. Full story.
Palatine arson expert testifies fire was deliberately set
A Palatine Fire Department arson investigator testified Tuesday that a 2016 fire at a home on the 1000 block of Penny Lane in Palatine was deliberately set. No one was injured in the fire, which homeowner Richard Moss reported to authorities about 5:30 p.m. March 6, 2016. Moss, 44, now of Warrenville, is charged with arson. He has pleaded not guilty. Former Wheaton attorney gets 4½ years for stealing from clients
A former attorney who pleaded guilty to theft has been sentenced to 4 years in prison for bilking the estates of clients from July 2011 through January 2015. Robert Beck, 50, of Mount Prospect, was sentenced Tuesday. Beck's law offices were based in Wheaton.
Norge trained three suburban Olympic ski jumping hopefuls
The slopes of Norge Ski Club in Fox River Grove served as the launchpad for three suburban Olympic hopefuls who likely have earned a spot on Team USA's ski jump team, club officials said Tuesday. The families of Michael Glasder of Cary, Kevin Bickner, formerly of Wauconda, and Casey Larson of Barrington shared their excitement at their sons' dreams of competing coming true. Family members will be traveling to the 2018 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games in Pyeongchang, South Korea, next month to cheer them on. Full story.

Traffic
Delays due to slippery conditions are increasing on roadways throughout the system. Slippery conditions are also causing some crashes in Cook and DuPage counties, specifically in Aurora, North Aurora, Elgin and Carol Stream. I-88 East is closed between Main Street and Route 47 due to a crash. Work is scheduled to cause restrictions on Route 120 between O'Plaine Road and Knight Avenue in Waukegan until early November, 2019. Full story.
