Beach Park man receives maximum sentence in carjacking case
A Beach Park man was given the maximum prison sentence on Wednesday for a carjacking he committed in 2013, according to a statement by DuPage County State's Attorney Robert B. Berlin.
Rockie Douglas, 38, pleaded guilty Wednesday morning to the charge of aggravated vehicular hijacking. He was sentenced to 30 years in prison.
On December 21, 2013, while being pursued by the authorities, Douglas' car broke down on the ramp from I-294 to I-88 in DuPage County. According to the state's attorney's office, when a couple over the age of 60 pulled over to help him, he pushed them out of their vehicle and drove away.
Douglas was arrested a few days later in Milwaukee and returned to Illinois. He has remained in police custody on a $1 million bond.
Under Illinois sentencing guidelines, Douglas must serve 85 percent of his prison sentence before he is eligible for parole.
