How paramedics helped a Hawthorn Woods mom deliver at home

What started as a routine call for a woman in labor turned into an "exhilarating" Saturday night for Lake Zurich firefighters and paramedics, who delivered the baby girl in the family's home. "They were such great cheerleaders, which is what I needed," Hawthorn Woods mom Carolyn Dale said. "I was in a sea of men I didn't know, but by the end of the evening, they were my best buds, and I was crying because they were so amazing." Full story.

Palatine homeowner ignites fire while fixing leaky pipe with torch

No injuries were reported after fire broke out in a Palatine home over the weekend as its owner was using a torch to repair a pipe, authorities said. Palatine firefighters were called to the home in the 1300 block of North King George Court at 5:08 p.m. Saturday on a report of a first-floor fire. The first crews to arrive found the fire in a laundry room, with flames extending through an exterior wall and damaging a small area of siding at the rear of the house. Full story.

Despite Blackhawks' woes, Saad remains positive
