Authorities lift Huntley High School lockdown
A lockdown of Huntley High School was lifted around 2:30 p.m. Friday as police continue investigating the source of two live bullets found by a student in a hallway earlier in the day, officials said.
"Police have completed an initial room-by-room search with canine units. While the investigation is ongoing, no evidence has been discovered to further concern of a threat to the school," according to Principal Scott Rowe.
The bullets were found outside the College and Careers Office. School officials initially did not allow any movement between classrooms, nor allow anyone to go in or out of the building. Blended students were told to remain off-campus for remaining classes.
Students were dismissed under normal procedures close to 2:26 p.m. The building has been closed to allow police to continue their search. Activities scheduled before 5:30 p.m. are canceled, officials said.
"We anticipate reopening the building for activities scheduled to begin at or after 5:30 p.m.," Rowe said. "Out of an abundance of caution, there will be an increased police presence on campus this evening."
