Aurora man charged in armed robbery

A 33-year-old Aurora man has been charged with armed robbery of a gas station in late 2017.

Juan Morales, of the 600 block of Alyce Lane, is accused of entering the gas station in the 600 block of N. Broadway at about 9 a.m. and demanding money at gunpoint from a 32-year-old female clerk, authorities said in a news release on their Facebook page.

The clerk handed over about $500 in cash, and Morales ran to his vehicle parked in a neighboring parking lot and left the area, authorities said.

Using security cameras at the gas station and neighboring businesses, detectives issued a bulletin to area law enforcement agencies the afternoon of Dec. 12 showing Morales and the vehicle he was driving, police said.

Plainfield police later arrested Morales on suspicion he was involved in a residential burglary that took place the same day. An ongoing investigation led to charges Jan. 10.

Police said Morales is a suspect in at least one other armed robbery in Aurora.
