Elmhurst cops investigating two attempted burglaries

Police are investigating two attempted residential burglaries between 6:30 and 7:10 p.m. Tuesday near North and West avenues in Elmhurst.

Police said a resident heard a window screen being opened and saw an outside motion light activate at 6:33 p.m. on the 300 block of River Glen. The resident then saw a dark pickup truck or SUV with a loud muffler leaving the area.

Nothing was taken, police said, and the resident was unable to provide a description of the suspect.

Roughly a half-hour later a resident on the 500 block of Third Street found a black man standing in the foyer of their home holding a handgun. The resident fled into the house and another family member called police, who searched the area.

Police said the man may have entered through a rear patio door and left without taking anything. He is described as about 5 feet 9 inches tall with a thin build and wearing a dark hoodie.

Anyone with video footage of the area or any information is asked to call Elmhurst police at (630) 530-3050.
