Three people injured in Lake Villa-area fire

Three people were injured in an early morning fire near Lake Villa, authorities said Monday.

Authorities were called to the 37400 block of Route 59 about 1:30 a.m. and found the two-story building in flames, Lake County sheriff's Sgt. Chris Covelli said.

The building - located directly across the street from the PMO Club in unincorporated Lake County - is split into four rental units, Covelli said. It's unknown how many of the rental units were occupied at the time of the fire, he added.

Three people suffered smoke and fire injuries and were taken to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville. One of the injured was later taken to Loyola Medical Center in Maywood.

The cause of the fire is unknown and is under investigation by Lake Villa Fire Protection District fire inspectors, the state fire marshal and the Lake County sheriff's office.
