Passenger potentially exposed O'Hare travelers to measles

A passenger on flights to and from O'Hare International Airport last week may have exposed others to measles. The passenger, who was infectious at the time, arrived Wednesday on an international flight at Terminal 5 and departed later that day on a domestic flight from Terminal 1, according to the Illinois Department of Public Health. Firefighter OK after touching live wire in Elgin fire

A firefighter was injured and a house left uninhabitable over the weekend after a fire burned an unused mattress in an attic of a house near downtown Elgin. Battalion Chief Terence Bruce said in a release a relative of a resident at the home reported the fire at 7:23 p.m. Saturday. The fire was brought under control quickly, but a firefighter suffered an electric shock when he came into contact with an exposed wire. Full story.

No snow was no problem yesterday for the annual Winterfest at Volo Bog State Natural Area in Ingleside. Cross-country skiers, snow sculptors and snowshoers might have been disappointed, but there was plenty to do inside and out. Full story.

Chimney fire displaces Wauconda family

Fire erupted in a chimney in a home in Wauconda over the weekend as the family enjoyed a fire in the fireplace. The fire, reported at 9:03 p.m. Saturday on the 400 block of Oak Grove Circle, damaged all three levels of the home. Full story.

Blackhawks turn in poor effort in loss to Detroit

Somebody forgot to set the Blackhawks' alarm clocks, and it cost them dearly against the Detroit Red Wings at the United Center yesterday. The game began at 11:30 a.m., and by the time fans had finished their first coffees, the Hawks were already down 2-0. It never improved from there, and the Red Wings waltzed out of town with an easy 4-0 victory. Read beat writer John Dietz's full take here.
