2 killed in Route 47 crash in McHenry County

Two people were killed in a head-on crash Sunday afternoon in Hebron Township, according to the McHenry County sheriff's office.

Authorities on Monday identified the victims as Jose Rodriguez, 42, of Marengo and Falynn M. Hironimus, 29, of Hebron.

According to sheriff's police, Hironimus was driving a 2009 Kia Rio north on Route 47 near Hebron about 4:20 p.m. when, for unknown reasons, it crossed into oncoming traffic and collided with a 2005 Chevrolet Impala driven by Rodriguez.

Both drivers were pronounced dead at the scene, authorities said.

Three passengers in the Impala - a 39-year-old woman and 12- and 9-year-old girls - were taken to Centegra hospitals in McHenry and Huntley. Their condition was not available Monday.

Air bags were deployed in the Chevrolet, but not in the Kia, according to the sheriff's office. Both drivers, as well as the front-seat passenger in the Impala, were wearing seat belts, but the two girls in the back seat of the Impala were not, authorities added.

An investigation is ongoing by the McHenry County sheriff's Major Crash Investigation Unit and the McHenry County coroner's office.
