Firefighter suffers minor injury at Hoffman Estates fire

A Hoffman Estates firefighter suffered a minor injury and is expected to fully recover while a resident was treated and released at the scene of a pre-dawn townhouse fire Monday.

Firefighters were called at 3:22 a.m. to the fire in a unit of a two-story building on the 1900 block of Dunmore Place in Hoffman Estates.

Though all the residents had already evacuated, firefighters found three live cats and a dead one during their search.

The cause of the fire remained under investigation Monday, with an initial damage estimate of $100,000 to the townhouse unit and its contents.

Firefighters found the fire to be based in the basement of the home and quickly extinguished it.

Twenty-two Hoffman Estates firefighters responded to the scene along with their chief, deputy chief and assistant chief. Mutual aid was provided at the scene by Streamwood firefighters while others from Elk Grove, Hanover Park, Schaumburg, Barrington Countryside and Elgin assisted in providing station coverage.

The townhouse was found to have no working smoke detectors and was not equipped with a sprinkler system.
