Chief: Damage from garage fire mitigated by Mundelein teen's actions

Quick thinking by a Mundelein teen mitigated the possible damage to his home after the attached garage caught fire over the weekend, officials said. The 14-year-old was home alone and sleeping when he was awakened by his barking dog, Chief Deputy Fire Chief Bill Lark said. After realizing a fire had started in the garage, the boy closed the door to the house, safely evacuated and called 911. Full story.

District 158 to pick superintendent search firm, interim leader

Huntley school officials will hire a superintendent search firm to find the district's next leader. The Huntley Community School District 158 school board will conduct a special meeting tomorrow to approve a contract with executive search firm Hazard, Young, Attea & Associates of Schaumburg - part of the ECRA Group - and also appoint an interim superintendent.
