Fence erected around ruins from Des Plaines auto shop fire

Debris from a Friday fire that destroyed a Des Plaines auto repair shop Friday was enclosed behind a protective fence by Saturday morning. The afternoon fire blocked Oakton Street for about five hours.

The roof and parts of the exterior walls of Car X Auto Service, 1108 E. Oakton St., collapsed after a fire that began when gasoline from a car that was being repaired ignited, officials said. Two backhoes and a city water department truck were on the scene Saturday.
