Fire caused significant damage to an auto repair shop in Des Plaines Friday afternoon.
According to Des Plaines police, shortly before 1:30 p.m., both fire and police received a report of a car on fire inside Car X Auto Service, 1108 E. Oakton St.
By the time fire and police arrived, the building was fully engulfed in fire.
Police reported no injuries, with all employees leaving the building unharmed.
Although the fire department was able to extinguish the fire, the roof of the building and parts of the exterior walls collapsed, police said.
Both Oakton and Lee streets were closed until 7 p.m. at the location to make room for emergency vehicles.
"The cause of the fire has been determined to be the ignition of gasoline from a car that was being repaired," Des Plaines Fire Chief Alan Wax said.
