$150 to pay bills for niece with cancer

Today's recipient of $150 through the Believe Project wants to help pay bills for her niece, who is fighting cancer. Through the contribution of an additional donor, the Believe Project award has been increased to $150 since the recipients shared their stories.

• Cindy Frenzer of Arlington Heights:

"We would give the money to our niece, Melissa Boratyn, 29, who went through breast cancer surgery and treatment about six years ago. Two years ago, she was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer. She has been going through different chemos and radiation for different organs that have been affected.

"Their medical bills and Uber expenses to get to and from treatment when her husband is working are mounting. Melissa has not been able to get a job due to all the treatments. … Her husband, Jimmy, is now looking for a second job just to pay their everyday expenses, much less their medical bills. This $100 will come in handy to pay a bill or two."

• The Believe Project is awarding $150 daily in December to a total of 48 people with good ideas for how to use the money to do a good deed for someone else.
