District 220 approves property tax levy increase
Barrington Area Unit District 220 property owners will pay more toward the school system next year.
District 220 board members this week approved a tax levy hike for property owners in the school system's boundaries. While the district requested a 4.9 percent boost to capture anticipated growth in the Consumer Price Index and any new construction within its boundaries, it expects to receive 2.74 percent more due to a state cap.
Tim Neubauer, the district's assistant superintendent of business services, said based on that figure, the owner of a $500,000 home can expect to pay an extra $202.62 on next year's property taxes. Property taxes account for about 80 percent of the district's annual operating revenue.
