Harper College increases property tax levy 2.3 percent

Harper College is planning a 2.3 percent property tax levy increase for 2018.

The college's board of trustees recently approved the college's levy request, which must be certified and returned to county clerks by Dec. 26.

College officials estimate Harper's property tax revenue will actually increase 2.5 percent - accounting for a 2.1 percent increase in the consumer price index and an estimated 0.4 percent for new property and the expiration of tax increment financing districts.

For the owner of a $250,000 home, it would mean paying an extra $2.61 annually.
