Suspicious powder in Lombard turns out to be flour

Lombard firefighters who were initially called Sunday afternoon to a report of a possible hazardous material near the Sunset Knoll Recreation Center determined the suspicious substance was actually flour.

A hazmat team, along with the assistance of Hanover Park firefighters, had the white powder tested as a precaution after a concerned person walking a dog noticed the substance.

"It turned out to be flour," Lombard Battalion Chief Al Green said. "It was a white substance that was found laying on the ground next to a balloon that had been popped."
