Roof fire damages Prospect Heights business

Prospect Heights firefighters who responded about 6:47 p.m. Friday to a report of smoke in or from a strip shopping center in the 1200 block of north Elmhurst Road initially couldn't see anything.

After investigation though, a fire was discovered in the roof near an exhaust fan for one of the several restaurants in the building, fire officials said in a news release. Additional firefighters were called to the scene and firefighters from the Prospect Heights Fire Protection District and Wheeling worked to extinguish the fire.

Damage and loss was limited to the roof and inside one business. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Responders included 28 firefighters with four engines, two aerial trucks, a heavy rescue truck, two ambulances and five chief officers from four departments.
