Gurnee's Turkey Trot raised $13,400 for four charities

Gurnee police announced Tuesday they raised $13,400 in net proceeds during the 2017 Turkey Trot.

About 500 people registered for the annual 5K run/walk event this year, according to a news release. The event is held each year on Thanksgiving morning.

Funds raised from the event will be given to four local organizations: The Gurnee Community Church Youth Missions Program; Gurnee School District 56 Special Needs Program; the Warren Township Food Pantry; and the University of Chicago Comer Children's Hospital.

The checks will be presented to the organizations during a ceremony at 9 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 21, at the Gurnee Police Department.
