Man charged with threatening judge deemed fit for trial

A Waukegan man charged with threatening a Lake County judge has been deemed mentally fit to stand trial.

Daryl G. Carter, 44, of the 4200 block of Brentwood Lane, is facing felony counts of threatening a public official and disorderly conduct for threatening a Lake County judge in a telephone message July 12, authorities said.

Lake County authorities have declined to identify the judge. Carter was transferred to a state mental health facility after he was deemed mentally unfit to stand trial or assist in his own defense during a September court hearing.

McHenry County Judge Robert Wilbrandt announced in court Friday that doctors have deemed Carter fit to stand trial. He will be transferred to the Lake County jail and held on $750,000 bail. His next court date is Jan. 5.
