Images: #TBT Gallery revisits winter weather, Santa in 1972

Santa, along with cold and snowy weather, made for a typical December in 1972.

In national news, on Dec. 7, 1972, Apollo 17 was launched from Cape Kennedy as the last manned trip to the moon.

Also, screening of all passengers and carry-on luggage for the airline industry was announced in early December, to be implemented in all American airports by Jan. 5, 1973.

Locally, tragedy struck Chicago as United Airlines Flight 553 from Washington to Chicago crashed while attempting to land at Midway Airport.

This week's #TBT Gallery photos were taken in the Northwest suburbs and feature Santa visiting various malls and residents traversing in the snow.
