Numerous car burglaries reported in Lincolnshire

Lincolnshire police said Monday they, along with departments in many surrounding towns, received numerous reports of burglaries to unlocked vehicles over the weekend.

Most of the burglaries occurred during the overnight hours between 10 p.m. and 8 a.m., according to police.

In most instances, such thefts are crimes of opportunity, and often there are some preventive actions vehicle owners can take to help deter would-be thieves, police said. Precautionary measures include not leaving keys in your vehicle; closing all windows and locking all doors; and taking personal items and valuables with you. Also, if someone gets into your car, they also could steal your garage door opener, so consider locking it up also.

If you see or hear something suspicious, please call 911 to report it, police said.
