How to protect a rare bird

Efforts to restore the whooping crane population is the topic from 7:30 to 9 p.m. Monday, Dec. 4 at the Lake County Audubon Society's monthly meeting at the Libertyville village hall, 118 W. Cook Ave. Lizzie Condon, coordinator of the Keeping Whooping Cranes Safe program at the International Crane Foundation, will discuss the effort. At 5 feet in height, whooping cranes are the tallest birds in the U.S. and, at a current population of 600, the rarest. Children are welcome and special raffles to feature future programs will be held.
