Schaumburg mom who killed disabled daughter is found dead

Bonnie Liltz, the Schaumburg mother ordered to return to prison today for killing her severely disabled daughter in 2015, was found dead over the weekend in her home, police said. Liltz, 57, was pronounced dead at 6:26 p.m. Saturday in the 1100 block of Springinsguth Road, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office, which said yesterday afternoon that the determination of cause of death is pending. Arizona woman killed in Antioch Township hit-and-run crash

A 27-year-old Arizona woman was killed yesterday after the vehicle she was driving was rear-ended by a 2007 Volvo, according to the Lake County sheriff's office. The collision, which occurred about 1:37 a.m. on Route 59, caused both vehicles to lose control and hit trees. The 41-year-old man driving the Volvo fled on foot and was later found at his nearby residence. Charges are pending. Full story.

U-46 to spend nearly $15 million on 2018 building projects

Elgin Area School District U-46 officials expect to spend roughly $14.7 million on capital projects in 2018, including renovation of the welding lab at Elgin High School and building a new stadium at Bartlett High School. The largest expense is $5 million for upgrading the district's food service facility at 1150 Bowes Road in Elgin. The building will be operational by summer, officials said. Full story.

Brewery eyes late-spring move to new Grayslake location

Light the Lamp Brewery in Grayslake hopes to complete its long-discussed move down the block to the 101-year-old building at 2 S. Lake St. in late spring. The village board last week approved a $150,000 economic grant the brewery can claim after its move, provided it generates the equivalent of 25 full-time jobs. Full story.

Mount Prospect pursuing Northwest Highway pedestrian bridge

Mount Prospect is taking the lead in pursuing funding for a bicycle and pedestrian bridge over Northwest Highway and the Union Pacific railroad tracks to link Melas Park with Meadows Park. Officials say the bridge will offer safe north-south access to schools, recreation, shopping and public transit. Full story.

Grant outplays Bulls' Dunn in loss to Miami

The Chicago Bulls and Miami Heat played the third-lowest scoring first quarter in NBA history yesterday, according to Basketball-Reference.com, with the Bulls holding a 13-7 lead after the opening 12 minutes. Miami picked up the pace quickly, scoring 38 points in the second quarter, and went on to post a 100-93 victory at the United Center. Full story.
