Parade wraps up St. Charles 'Holiday Homecoming' party

Downtown St. Charles was aglow early Saturday evening, and not just with holiday spirit.

It was the annual Electric Christmas Parade, wrapping up the two-day Holiday Homecoming party put on by the Downtown St. Charles Partnership.

Earlier in the day, people enjoyed a free screening of “Home Alone” at the Arcada Theater. There were live mannequins in storefront windows during the afternoon. Santa Claus visited with youngsters from 1 to 4 p.m., as he will every Saturday and Sunday through Dec. 23 at First Street Plaza.

The parade marshals were Joe and Rowena Salas and their sons, Antonio and Emilio. The family owns the Hotel Baker, which turns 90 in 2018. The Salases bought it in 2003 after it had been used for years as a residence for seniors. They rehabilitated it and turned it back in to a hotel.
