Officials: Exhaust fan causes fire at Hoffman Estates home

A bathroom exhaust fan caught fire at a Hoffman Estates home on Saturday and caused about $25,000 worth of damage, officials said.

A Realtor was planning to show the home on the 4600 block of Brigantine Lane and found it filled with smoke, according to a news release from the Hoffman Estates Fire Department.

Firefighters arrived at 4:30 p.m. to find smoke coming from the front door and fire coming from the fan in a second-floor bathroom, the release said. No one was home at the time of the fire, and no injuries were reported.
