Huntley police announce charges in Marlowe Middle School threat case

A 13-year-old Huntley boy has been charged with felony and misdemeanor offenses stemming from electronic threats made earlier this month, the Huntley Police Department announced Tuesday.

The unidentified teen is facing felony charges of disorderly conduct (threats made to school), harassment by electronic communication and committing a hate crime, along with misdemeanor counts of obstructing a peace office and disorderly conduct, a news release said. The charges were filed in juvenile court.

Huntley police received a report last week regarding a threat to Marlowe Middle School and racial statements made via Xbox Live. Officials previously described the threat as "disparaging racial and threatening comments" made toward a student through the web gaming system.

The boy is being detained at the Kane County Juvenile Detention Center, according to police.

He is not the same person charged in a reported hate crime at Marlowe Middle School last month, police said Tuesday. Both incidents did involve the same victim, though, police said last week.
