Officials: McHenry County jail inmate's death under investigation

The death of a Cary man who was being held at the McHenry County jail Friday is under investigation.

Thomas M. Doheny, 51, was found unresponsive in a single-occupancy cell during rounds Friday evening, and jail staff members started lifesaving measures, the McHenry County sheriff's office said in a news release Saturday.

Doheny was taken to Centegra Hospital-Woodstock, where he was pronounced dead at 8:53 p.m., according to a news release from McHenry County Coroner Dr. Anne Majewski.

The investigation was turned over to McHenry County Major Investigation Assistance Team and the coroner's office, the sheriff's release states. An autopsy is set for Sunday.

The sheriff's office said Doheny had been incarcerated at the McHenry County jail since Nov. 1 for contempt of court.
