Police say man offered rides to kids near Des Plaines

Cook County sheriff's police are looking for a man who approached students at two bus stops and offered them rides in an unincorporated area near Des Plaines on Wednesday.

A man riding a black bicycle approached a 13-year-old boy waiting at the school bus stop near Church Street and Bay Colony Drive at around 7:30 a.m., according to a Thursday evening news release from the sheriff's office.

The man told the boy he could give him a ride in his car if the school bus did not show up.

The man also approached a girl waiting at the same bus stop and offered her a ride in his car, then asked if she wanted to go for coffee, officials said.

Both ignored the man and boarded the bus when it arrived, according to the release, and detectives learned the man went to another bus stop and also talked to students there.

The man was described as white, around 5 feet 10 inches to 6 feet tall and about 30 to 40 years old.

He has short blond hair and wore a black coat, black jeans and some type of hat or hood.

The sheriff's office posted surveillance footage of the man on their Vimeo page at vimeo.com/cookcounty.
