Hoffman Estates Redhawks heading to nationals

The Hoffman Estates Redhawks have won two Illinois state championships in Pop Warner football this season and are now seeking fundraising help for their trip to the Pop Warner National Championships Dec. 2 to 9 in Orlando, Florida.

The junior high-aged team last year became the first in Pop Warner history to win three consecutive national championships in Division 2. But team organizer Mark Mueller said the Redhawks have since been moved up to Division 1 and will face some true big-city competition in the upcoming championships.

The team has two squads, and the average cost per player is $1,200 for transportation, food and lodging.
