Second Northbrook resident admits being part of shoplifting ring

The second of four Northbrook residents who authorities say operated a shoplifting ring in the Northwest suburbs pleaded guilty to retail theft.

Dragan Moro Owens, 39, pleaded guilty to retail theft in exchange for a 4½-year sentence, Cook County court records show. Zvanko Dobobrov, 24, pleaded guilty last year in exchange for two years of probation.

Charges are pending against Natsasa Petrov and Kochak Owens.

Police say the defendants stole merchandise worth thousands of dollars from suburban retailers by distracting store employees. According to police, the ring targeted Apple and Samsung products along with other items. They then sold the items through an online auction site, police said.

Bed Bath & Beyond, HHGregg, Hobby Lobby, Home Depot and Toys R Us cooperated with the investigation, which was led by Arlington Heights police.

Bloomingdale, Downers Grove, Gurnee, Schaumburg and Vernon Hills police departments participated in the investigation.
