Lake Villa man arrested with 3,000 pills faces multiple charges
A Lake Villa man, whom police accuse of running "a drive-up and delivery street pharmacy," is being held on $750,000 bail.
Phillip Libenson, 44, of the 37000 block of North State Route 59, in Lake Villa is charged with six counts of possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver and one count of unlawful possession of a controlled substance.
Round Lake Park Police Chief George Filenko said his officers along with the Lake County Sheriff's Gang Unit executed a search warrant at Libenson's home at about 1 p.m. Thursday and recovered more than 3,000 pills.
Among the recovered pills, Filenko said, were the pain killer oxycodone, Ritalin, Xanax, buprenorphine, temazepam and tramadol.
"National recognition of the opiod epidemic is gaining momentum and treatment is a key component in the battle against addiction," Filenko said. "We still need to remember that eliminating the street level suppliers by taking a bottom-up approach plays a significant role in this process."
Flienko said Libenson intends on representing himself in court proceedings and has demanded a speedy trial.
