Police warn of phone scam

Daily Herald Report

The Lake County sheriff's office is warning people to be wary of criminals posing as sheriff's deputies on the phone. The criminals call people, say they're wanted on warrants and demand they buy gift cards or prepaid credit cards to avoid arrest. The sheriff's office does not solicit bond money, fines or other payments over the phone. If you feel you've received a fraudulent call, call the sheriff's office or your local police department.
