Hoffman Estates man pleads guilty to stopping woman from leaving apartment

A Hoffman Estates man who authorities say argued with a woman then refused to let her leave the apartment pleaded guilty to unlawful restraint.

Anthony Raio, 31, was sentenced Tuesday to two years of probation and ordered to pay $2,500 in restitution, according to court records.

The judge also ordered Raio to pay $724 in fines and to participate in mental health, drug and alcohol abuse evaluations, court records show.

Prosecutors say Raio and the woman had an argument last June that escalated. During the argument, Raio prevented the woman from leaving by forcing the front door closed, prosecutors said. They say Raio also punched a wall, causing damage.

Eventually, the woman was able to flee the apartment and call police, prosecutors said.
