Driver's test ends with crash at Naperville driver services facility

A 79-year-old Downers Grove man failed his driving test Tuesday after backing his SUV through the front window of the secretary of state driver services facility at 931 W. 75th St. in Naperville.

Spokesman Dave Druker said the man and a secretary of state employee had just returned from taking a road test around 1:15 p.m. when the driver, with the car in reverse, accidentally accelerated instead of braking.

"Thankfully no one was injured. The crash just knocked a few windows out," Druker said. "The gentleman did not pass his test."

Druker said the facility closed immediately following the crash but reopened Wednesday morning.

Naperville police Sgt. Steven Schindlbeck said the crash "sounded a lot worse than it truly was when it was dispatched."
