Kids enjoyed a special treat during a "The Nutcracker" story time at the Libertyville Civic Center Tuesday.

Dance Center North and Cook Park Library teamed up as kids were read the story of "The Nutcracker" by children's librarian Debbie Colodny and had a Q&A with members of this year's "The Nutcracker" cast.

Katie Waldvogel, 16, Hannah Sachs, 14, both of Green Oaks and Stone Mitran of Libertyville answered questions and danced with kids as a video of "The Nutcracker" played in the background.

Katie Waldvogel plays the role of the Sugar Plum Fairy, Hannah Sachs is Clara and Stone Mitran is Fritz in the Dance Center North production.

A shortened 60-minute presentation, "The Magic of the Nutcracker," will be offered this year, which is specially designed for younger audiences. This performance will be Dec. 2 at 10:30 a.m. at Libertyville High School.

Full-length performances will be Dec. 2 and 3 at 3 p.m. at Libertyville High School and Dec. 9 at 1 and 5 p.m. at the Genesee Theater in Waukegan.
