Race to honor Lindenhurst woman killed in Ethiopia

A former Lindenhurst woman who was killed last year during civil unrest in Ethiopia will be memorialized with a 5K run in her hometown this month.

The "Sharon Makes Us Run 5K" race will honor Sharon Gray, who was in Ethiopia for a meeting about her postdoctoral research when the vehicle she was riding in was attacked by anti-government protesters.

The race is set for 11:30 a.m. Nov. 25. It will begin and end in Lindenhurst's Millennium Park. The entry fee is $30 in advance, or $35 on the day of the race. Proceeds will benefit scholarships in Gray's name for women pursuing degrees in biology.

To register, go to runrace.net/findarace.php?id=17329IL&tab=a2. For more information, contact race director Stephen Gray at steviejoegray@gmail.com or (847) 809-1347.
