American English to perform in Roselle to help veterans

American English once again is partnering with Roselle American Legion Post 1084 to help veterans.

The popular Beatles tribute band is donating its time to headline a benefit concert the post is having next week at Lake Park High School's West Campus.

"It's just a great time," said Gerry Luptak, chairman of the committee organizing the event. "And all the money is going to a great cause."

Proceeds from the 2017 Roselle Veterans Benefit Concert will be donated to programs that support veterans.

The show is scheduled for 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 10, in the auditorium of the high school at 500 W. Bryn Mawr in Roselle. The doors open at 6 p.m.

Singer Joe Cantafio of the band 101st Rock Division has agreed to play for free as the opening act.

Cantafio will sing patriotic songs during a roughly 45-minute performance. Then American English will do a set focused on The Beatles' early years.

"American English puts on a great show," Luptak said. "It's not their full show, but they perform for a good hour."

Luptak said the third annual concert has become one of the post's biggest fundraisers because American English and Cantafio volunteer to perform each year. The high school also doesn't charge the post to use the auditorium.

Last year, the concert drew about 250 people and raised more than $4,000. The hope is to fill more seats this year in the 800-seat auditorium.

The list of organizations and programs that will benefit includes Operation Comfort Warriors, the Wheaton-based Midwest Shelter for Homeless Veterans and TLS Veterans, a McHenry-based group that helps veterans find jobs, homes and health care.

Tickets are $10 and will be available at the door. Students with a school ID will be charged $5.

To buy tickets in advance, visit American Legion Post 1084, 344 E. Maple Ave., Roselle, or call (630) 894-8524.
